Freddy’s Steakburger enters market with two locations

Kansas-based chain opening restaurants on Bertrand Drive and Kaliste Saloom Road.

Get out your poodle skirts out and start spying on your communist neighbor, Lafayette, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburger is bringing back the 1950s with two new locations opening within a year.

The new construction buildings on Bertrand Drive near the Cajundome (next to Agave in the Rouses-anchored Westwood Village shopping center) and on Kaliste Saloom Road in the forthcoming Ambassador Town Center development will house the fast-casual dining concept, based on the wholesome, family friendly fast food model.

The Wichita, Kan., based chain serves homespun Americana with diner classics like the cooked-to-order steakburger made with two thin-and-crispy patties of lean ground beef, and its take on frozen custard, inspired by the ice-creamier Coney Island treat.

Named for Freddy Simon, father of co-founding brothers Randy and Bill Simon, the restaurant’s recipes and concept harken back to the “simpler times” of the 1950s, though the chain was founded in 2002.

Lafayette’s two locations are part of a breakout 2015 for Freddy’s, which is set to add 45 new locations this year to its current roster of 135.
