All is right in the South Louisiana musical universe as local, wast-of-the-Basin bands swept the Cajun, zydeco and rock “best band” categories at the 2015 Big Easy Awards last week in New Orleans.

Lil Nathan & The Zydeco Big Timers took home the award for Best Zydeco Band while The Lost Bayou Ramblers won in the Best Cajun Band category. The former is headed by Nathan Williams Jr., son of the namesake front man/accordion player for Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas; he’s also the nephew of Sid Williams, proprietor of the world-famous El Sido’s Zydeco & Blues Club in Lafayette and a killer accordion player himself. The Lost Bayou Ramblers are fronted by Louis and Andre Michot, scions of the famed Michot family of both Cajun music and jurisprudence.

Also taking home an award was Lafayette-based Brass Bed for Best Rock Band. Members include newly minted Independent contributing writer Christiaan Mader. Congrats to all.
