La. ranked #9 in police-related killings in 2015

Eleven Louisianans have died at the hands of police in 2015.

According to a recent study by The Guardian, Louisiana is ranked number nine in the nation for police killings in 2015 with 11 total. The national number so far this year is at 470, according to the study.

Among Louisiana’s 11 police-related killings reported this year, only one has occurred in the Acadiana area. That shooting involved Nathan Massey of Ville Platte, who was killed by a Louisiana State Police trooper during a hostage situation involving his girlfriend.

According to The Guardian:

Massey took his girlfriend hostage in a trailer but she escaped after police said they heard gunshots. Massey was then shot by a trooper through the trailer window.

Massey’s case remains under investigation.
