Camellia Boulevard next to River Ranch is the latest greenspace in Lafayette to receive the public park treatment with the construction of the Camellia Art Park, which will be built along Camellia Boulevard stretching from Johnston Street to the Vermilion River. The first phase of the planned park will be the Camellia Gridshell Pavillion, which will be designed by UL Lafayette School of Architecture & Design students and built by local contractors this summer.

A crowdfunding campaign was established over the weekend on IndieGoGo with a $15,000 fundraising goal by July 12. As of this morning [Monday], the campaign has already raised $2,100.

According to the campaign page, the Camellia Gridshell Pavilion will feature an innovative lightweight structural system made from curved surfaces of gridded wood and covered with white aluminum panels to provide a shaded place for “rest, reflection, and interpretation for the art park.”
