Downtown, Sugar Mill Pond fête Fourth

It’ll be South Louisiana steamy this weekend. But still, it’s the Fourth of July. Gotta get your patriotism on.

Would it Independence Day were in October or March. But it isn’t and it’ll be South Louisiana steamy this weekend. But still, it’s the Fourth of July. Gotta get your patriotism on.

The celebration begins Friday over at Sugar Mill Pond in Youngsville. The traditional neighborhood development will host its annual Independence Celebration from 5:30-9:15 p.m. Live music by Cedryll Ballou & The Zydeco Trendsetters will highlight the event, which will also include the obligatory fireworks display plus lots of activities for the family including face painting, kayak demonstrations, pony rides, remote-controlled boat demonstrations and more. Admission is free and a shuttle service will be provided for guests.

The Downtown Lafayette Restaurant and Bar Association will host the inaugural Uncle Sam’s Jam at Parc International Saturday. Gates open at 3 p.m. and the event heats up later in the afternoon with musical performances by headliner Roddie Romero & The Hub City All Stars, along with Ray Boudreaux, Travis Ewing and DJ Chris Reed. The celebration will of course include a killer fireworks display. Admission is free and parking is available at the Downtown parking garage at the corner of Vermilion and Polk streets.

The Children’s Museum of Acadiana adjacent to Parc International will also be open with lots of activities for the kiddies.
