JUL 22 The Advocate posts this interesting look at the guy who was denied communion at his mom's funeral by a priest who apparently wasn't happy with the fact that the man happened to be married to a man. Leaders in the church have extended an apology to the guy, and there are several voices here explaining that it's not up to the priest to deny someone communion. Wait - so if homosexuality actually is a sin, that's between the sinner and God? Really? Somebody get that info onto the Facebooks IMMEDIATELY, because they got some confused people over there.

PARENTS: IT'S TOO HOT TO START SCHOOL IN AUGUST
JUL 22 So it turns out that whether you believe in science or not, it's still hot as hell outside. (So to speak.) WBRZ reports here about some parents over in Tangipahoa Parish (which has a looooong history of pushing creationism versus, you know, science) are saying school should start later because it is so hot.

Surveillance cameras at local businesses captured a firefight among dozens of people carrying all manner of weapons, leaving behind hundreds of spent shells, the blog reports. What the heck is going on up there?
