Come Comedy, Lafayette Needs You!

The laugh in Lafayette has been hard to come by lately, and we at The IND could sure use a few.

Wyatt Cenac

Fortunately, Lafayette Comedy, which is actually just a dude named Jason who’s been bringing some great comics to the Hub City, has three more on tap in August: Wyatt Cenac, best known for his recurring role as a correspondent on Jon Stewart’s Comedy Central juggernaut The Daily Show, Sasheer Zamata of Saturday Night Live fame and comedy road warrior and New Orleans native Sean Patton.

New York-based and also credited as an actor and writer, Cenac spent nearly five years on Stewart’s roster of go-to correspondents. Prior to that, Cenac spent three seasons as a writer for the popular Fox animated series King of the Hill. His fi lm credits include Mike Birbiglia’s Sleepwalk with Me and Darren Grodsky’s Growing Up (And Other Lies). He got on Stewart’s radar after his acclaimed 2011 Comedy Central special “Comedy Person.” Most recently, Cenac appeared in David Cross’ fi lm Hits, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year.

Sasheer Zamata is probably best known for her role as a featured performer on Saturday Night Live, although many comedy fans know her for the web series Pursuit of Sexiness. The Indianapolis native is a veteran of the New York City improv scene, performing regularly with the famed Upright Citizens Brigade since 2009. She has also co-starred in an ABC News hidden-camera series, Primetime: Would You Fall for That? and has appeared on Inside Amy Schumer.

Sasheer Zamata

Zamata was originally scheduled to perform Lafayette in July but was forced to cancel after landing a role in a motion picture. Tickets purchased for the July show will be honored at the Aug. 22 performance.

Sean Patton

A native of The Big Easy who is now based out of Los Angeles and NYC, Sean Patton has performed in comedy clubs big and small across the U.S. and Canada, including major comedy festivals — Just for Laughs Chicago (2013), Just for Laughs Toronto (2013), and three times at Just for Laughs Montreal (2008, 2010, 2012) — as well as the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (2011). His television appearances include Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brian and Inside Amy Schumer.
