National Hurricane ServiceMIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Danny is moving slowly westward, far out over the Atlantic, and could still become a hurricane.
The storm's maximum sustained winds early Wednesday are near 50 mph (80 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the storm could strengthen in the next few days, but forecasting models give mixed signals on how much.
The storm is centered about 1,385 miles (2228 kilometers) east of the Lesser Antilles and is moving westward near 12 mph (19 kph). A slightly slower forward speed is expected during the next 48 hours.
The Hurricane Center reports tropical storm force winds extend up to 70 miles (113 kilometers) from the center.
The storm does not currently pose a threat to any land.
