Cajuns and Tigers renew baseball rivalry

by Nathan Stubbs

UL and LSU renew their interstate baseball rivalry tonight with a 6:30 game at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge. It will be the first time the two teams have met since the 2002 regionals, a heated series in which LSU suffered its first and only home post-season loss to another in-state school before rallying back to win the regional. Also memorable was a series of heated exchanges in the three games, laid out in today’s Advocate, which resulted in two players and UL coach Tony Robichaux being ejected. Because of the bad blood, the two teams have avoided scheduling each other since, but that changed last year after Robichaux welcomed new LSU Coach Paul Manieri and both coaches agreed to put the past behind them. Tonight’s game will be broadcast on Cox channel 37, KPEL 1420 AM and Eagle 98.1 FM.
