Dr. Robert Autin, a general surgeon, has joined the practice of Drs. Philip Gachassin, Dennis Eschete Jr., Daniel Carroll and Michael Horaist. Autin will be practicing general, minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Lafayette General Medical Center and Lafayette General Surgical Hospital. A cum laude undergraduate of UL Lafayette in biology, Autin earned his medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. He did his fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y., and his residency in general surgery at New York Methodist in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Dr. L. Glen Mire, medical director at Hospice of Acadiana, was granted the Hospice Medical Director Certified credential by the Hospice Medical Director Certification Board.

Dr. Jacob Karr has joined Lafayette General Endoscopy Center. The gastroenterologist offers screening and diagnostic endoscopy and colonoscopy, as well as minimally invasive procedures like Stretta, for treatment of reflux. Karr is a graduate of LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. He trained in gastroenterology at Ochsner in New Orleans and completed his residency at the Department of Internal Medicine at Tulane.

Dr. Ricky L. Owers, a gynecologic surgical oncologist, has joined Cancer Center of Acadiana at Lafayette General. Owers most recently was director of gynecologic oncology and the primary investigator of gynecologic research studies at Christus Shumpert Health System Cancer Treatment Center in Shreveport. He earned his medical degree from LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. The Lafayette native completed his residency at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn., and did his fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center, in Bronx, N.Y.
