Latin Fest moves to AcA

Asociacion Cultural Latino Acadiana is hosting the 2015 Latin Festival this Saturday, Oct. 3 at the AcA in the observation of Latin American Day in Acadiana.

Asociacion Cultural Latino Acadiana and Acadiana Center for the Arts invites everyone to the 2015 Latin Festival this Saturday in the observation of Latin American Day in Acadiana — a celebration of hispanic heritage through music, food, talks, film, arts and crafts, youth performances, and dance.

This event is replacing the annual Latin Music Festival, but is also a free, family friendly celebration of Latin American culture. The event will feature a screening of Peril & Promise from the PBS series The Latino Americans, youth performances, arts and crafts, and live music for dancing.

UL Lafayette professor Kathleen Schott Espinoza will hold an open discussion about the experience of Latinos migrating to the Acadiana area and the lives of minority populations in Acadiana.

The Lafayette Public Library System is also partnering with the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Edith Garland Dupre' Library, Le Centre International de Lafayette and the Consulate General of Mexico to bring new attention to the history and culture of Latino Americans in our area. The public programming initiative, "Latino Americans: 500 Years of History," has been made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.

Join the Acadiana community in a cultural experience at the 2015 Latin Festival on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. at the Acadiana Center for the Arts, located at 101 W. Vermilion St., in Downtown Lafayette. This family friendly event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit LatinoAcadiana.org.
