A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands. That is the philosophy of the organizers of the 2nd Annual Death by Chocolate. This decadent event features chocolate-inspired and savory dishes from a variety of local chefs, who are vying for the coveted people’s choice award, a chocolate cocktail contest, first class musical entertainment, and a silent and live auction with many items never offered before.

The Louisiana Restaurant Association (LRA) Acadiana Chapter, Acadiana Symphony Orchestra & Conservatory of Music (ASO&C) and the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission (LCVC) have come together to present this couture chocolate fundraising event. Proceeds from this event benefit the culinary and performing arts and the education programs associated with all entities.

Nibbles of chocolate specialties will be available for guests of this event by the master chefs from Bon Temps Grill, Brick & Spoon, City Club at River Ranch, Cypress Bayou Casino, DoubleTree by Hilton, Fezzo’s, Grand Couteau Bistro, Hook & Boil, Indulge, Keller’s Bakery, Petroleum Club, Ruffinos on the River, Sassy Oil & Vinegar, Tony Chachere’s, and Zea Rotisserie & Grill. Dishes you can expect: White Chocolate Bacon Bread Pudding, triple chocolate duck, Chocolate Crochette with Italian Eggplant Topping, Oysters Rockefeller Soup, Harajuku Shrimp, Reese’s Cheesecake and more. The guests will vote on their favorite chocolate and non-chocolate dishes and the winner in both categories receives $500 and bragging rights.

Death by Chocolate will also have a chocolate beer tasting and a specialty chocolate cocktail contest with contestants from Zea’s, Charley G’s, Corner Bar, Grub Burger, Ruffino’s Ruth’s Chris, Steamboat Warehouse, and Tony Chachere’s. The winner will be voted on by the guests and receive a $500 cash prize.

Lee Michael’s will provide a beautiful set of diamond earrings valued at $2,500 that will be up for grabs as well. The live auction promises not to disappoint: guests can bid on the opportunity to dine with Coach Hud and six of their friends with an all-inclusive dinner at Zea’s, the once in a lifetime chance to conduct the National Anthem with the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, a seven night stay at the luxurious Beach Resort & Spa just outside Gulf Shores, a Foodie’s Package of 24 restaurant gift certificates valued at more than $2,300; a Fais-Do-Do Crawfish Boil with live music and beverages for 20 people, a Day at the Spa package for eight, and much more.
