Cinema on the Bayou presents 'Zydeco Crossroads'

The Cinema on the Bayou Film Society presents the world premiere of the highly anticipated Zydeco Crossroads: A Tale of Two Cities at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Vermilionville’s Performance Center.

The Cinema on the Bayou Film Society presents the world premiere of the highly anticipated Zydeco Crossroads: A Tale of Two Cities, a film by Robert Mugge about Philadelphia public radio station WXPN’s exploration of the Creole culture of Southwest Louisiana through its yearlong Zydeco Crossroads project.

The 87-minute film features performances by Buckwheat Zydeco, C.J. Chenier, Chubby Carrier, Nathan Williams, Major Handy, Rockin’ Dopsie, Jr., Rosie Ledet, Creole United, Soul Creole, Chris Ardoin, Lil’ Nate Williams, Corey Arceneaux and Vasti Jackson. The film was featured on National Public Radio and also includes interviews by World Café host David Dye with many of the musicians as well as interviews with Zydeco club owner Sid Williams and Zydeco music experts Herman Fuselier and Michael Tisserand.

After the film screening, veteran filmmaker Robert Mugge and producer Diana Zelman will participate in a Q&A, followed by a reception. There will be a cash bar and food available for purchase from Vermilionville. The screening serves as a fall fundraising event for Cinema on the Bayou Film Society.

Zydeco Crossroads: A Tale of Two Cities screens at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Vermilionville’s Performance Center, located at 300 Fisher Road in Lafayette. Admission is $10 per person, and tickets can be purchased in advance at www.cinemaonthebayou.com through Eventbrite and at the door on the night of the event.
