Arts/culture, social service agencies set for LCG support

More than two dozen arts/culture presenters and venues and social service agencies in the greater Lafayette area will receive nearly $300,000 in financial support from Lafayette Consolidated Government pending approval of a resolution before the City-Parish Council.

More than two dozen arts/culture presenters and venues and social service agencies in the greater Lafayette area will receive nearly $300,000 in financial support from Lafayette Consolidated Government pending approval of a resolution before the City-Parish Council on Tuesday.

Funding for external agencies are split between arts/culture and social service, with the Acadiana Center for the Arts and LCG’s Community Development Department working with separate, independent panels that review applications and disperse grants. The AcA oversees the arts grants while Community Development handles the social-service grants.

Arts and culture presenters requested $127,500 in grants for the upcoming fiscal year beginning Nov. 1, of which a little over $62,000 was approved. Social service nonprofits did better both in bulk funding and percentage approved — $218,528 approved of $261,350 requested.
