Local businessman died in his sleep of apparent heart attack.

Lafayette and all of Acadiana lost an important community leader, business owner and philanthropist on Thursday, Oct. 22 when Ed Krampe, 75, died in his sleep of an apparent heart attack.

President of McDonald’s of Acadiana (an ABiz Top 50 company), Krampe was one of the chain’s most successful owner-operators with 21 restaurants in the family business. He moved to Lafayette in 1972 to open Acadiana’s first McDonald’s and, in the years since, employed more than 70,000 area residents.

He was also a partner and investor in Charley G’s, Social Southern Table & Bar and other restaurant ventures and firms in the area ranging from real estate development to construction and communications.
