Bipartisan support grows for Edwards in Lafayette

It’s looking increasingly grim for Sen. David Vitter. Exhibit K: A group of south Lafayette business and finance leaders are joining together to host a fundraiser for state Rep. John Bel Edwards.

Scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Petroleum Club, the event, which Edwards will attend, is being hosted by a group of former supporters of candidate Scott Angelle: Don Bacque, Wayne Elmore, Ted Haik, Paul Hardy, Paul Segura, Perry Segura and Gene Sellers — not exactly a cabal of tax-and-spend liberals.

The suggested contribution to the one-hour event is $5,000.

Edwards was endorsed Thursday morning by Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne, who came in fourth behind Angelle in the Oct. 24 primary. Three recent polls have shown Edwards with a double-digit lead over Vitter.
