Lafayette is getting a new upscale apartment complex that hopes to attract young professionals working in and around the Hub City. Dubbed La Véranda, the 228-unit complex, a $30 million project, is locating on Polly Lane, just off Kaliste Saloom Road and close to the Heart Hospital and Lafayette Surgical Specialty Hospital.

Designed by Pécot & Company Architects, La Véranda is being developed by the Lafayette-based O’Brien Group and will feature units with built-in desks, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, walk-in closets and wood flooring throughout. La Véranda will also feature a suite of modern amenities including a two-story clubhouse with a second-floor fitness center overlooking a cabana and pool area with tanning beds. The clubhouse will also offer a conference room, a game room and a media room with a theater.

According to the Louisiana Secretary of State's records, the O’Brien Group's officers are Lafayette attorneys Clyde Simien and Rickey Miniex.

An O'Brien Group representative tells ABiz La Véranda will be marketed primarily to young managers and executives earning between $40,000 and $90,000 per year who are looking for a more upscale alternative to other apartment complexes in Lafayette. The company is especially interested in identifying and marketing to these young professionals who are moving into the city for jobs in the high-tech and medical industries.

The complex will also offer a dog park and pet center, a children’s playground, a recreational barbecue and picnic area, a retention pond with accompanying running track, exterior breezeways, access-controlled gates and private security.

Dallas-based ICI Inc. is the general contractor, and the expected completion date is January 2017.
