Knezek announces for Congress

Barely a year into his first term in elected office on the school board, Lafayette businessman Erick Knezek angles for a bigger fish.

Lafayette businessman Erick Knezek wants to replace U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany in the U.S. House of Representatives. Knezek, a Lafayette High and Naval Academy grad who is just over one year into his first term in elected office as a member of the Lafayette Parish School Board, announced Tuesday that he will seek the 3rd Congressional District seat currently occupied by Rep. Charles Boustany, a fellow Republican who is running to replace David Vitter in the Senate.

Also in the race is retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Greg Ellison, an Iraq War veteran who runs Kitty Hawk Energy. Ellison said this week that he raised $100,000 in the first week after announcing his candidacy.
