All but three schools to remain open

by Nathan Stubbs

All but three public schools in Lafayette Parish will remain open today. The Lafayette Parish School System is closing three schools in Scott – L. Leo Judice Elementary, Westside Elementary and Scott Middle – at noon due to loss of power. Those students will be fed a bag lunch before dismissal and bus transportation will be provided.

The school system plans to keep all other schools in the parish open. LPSS Public Relations Director Justine Sutley issued a news release this morning noting that weather reports indicate the worst of the bad weather has passed and that schools report that their situations are improving – power is coming back and water around the schools is receding. If parents have not yet gotten children to school, they may stay at home without being marked absent.  If students are already at school, LPSS asks parents to please leave them there. Graduation practice will also continue as scheduled today at the five public high schools.
