Baldwin suit ends in mistrial

A Baton Rouge jury was unable to reach a verdict in civil trial pitting former UL Lafayette against its former head football coach Jerry Baldwin, who filed a racial discrimination suit against the university.

The Advocate is reporting that a Baton Rouge jury was unable to reach a verdict in civil trial pitting former UL Lafayette against its former head football coach Jerry Baldwin, who filed a racial discrimination suit against the university.

Baldwin compiled a 6-27 record in three years at the helm of the Ragin Cajuns program from 1999-2001, but nonetheless insists his firing was racially motivated and not due to his abysmal win-loss record. An earlier verdict in favor of Baldwin in a similar suit was thrown out on appeal. Baldwin’s attorney in this latest court action vows to pursue another trial.
