With influences ranging from indie rockers like Death Cab For Cutie and Manchester Orchestra to the more progressive side of things with bands like As Cities Burn and Circa Survive, Foxfire from Lafayette, Louisiana delivers a sometimes soft, sweet, and melodic/sometimes noisy, loud, and in-your-face sound that guys and gals can enjoy.
Over the years, Dire Wood have gone from comfortably synthesizing influences as disparate as early Flaming Lips, Red House Painters, Television, and Tom Petty as they fleshed out the skeletons in J Burton's closet, to creating their own collective sound that rightfully comes off as well-lived in but never worn out, with world weary but wide-eyed confessions, melodies, and countermelodies as rich and welcoming as they are refined, and a rhythm section as tight but easy-going as life long friends.
Friday, June 3
Blue Moon Saloon
Doors: 9 p.m.
Julian Primeaux is the bastard son of rock’n’roll and southern gospel by way of the Atchafalaya Basin. Hailing from the swamps of Lafayette, Louisiana, the blues runs deep in his songs of both heartache and joy. Revelation don’t come on the mountain, it comes way down in the valley where you’ll find him preaching his electric sermons.
