C’est Bon: Liz Webb Hebert

Freshman councilwoman turning a bright idea into reality with safe space for online-sales exchanges.

District 8 Councilwoman Liz Webb Hebert isn’t six months into her first term on the City-Parish Council, yet she’s already putting good ideas into action.

The Advertiser reported this week that Hebert and the Lafayette Police Department are working to create a safe space in the PD’s parking lot where buyers and sellers who make transactions online can meet to exchange their goods — a reaction to the growing problem of miscreants arranging online deals in order to rob a seller or buyer when they meet at an unmonitored location.

Interim Police Chief Reggie Thomas tells the daily the swap area would be monitored by cameras recording the transaction as well as the license plates of vehicles that enter the parking lot. The safe space could also be used for child-custody exchanges.
