Lafayette Airport marked 75 years of flying Lafayette Nov. 29. Ongoing projects at the airport include a new fire station and opening of the Business Center in the terminal building.

The Foundation for Interior Design Research appointed Charles F. Seale, of Charles Seale Design, to serve as a site team visitor. Seale will visit university interior design departments seeking accreditation on behalf of the FIDER.

Cherie Brown, executive director of the National Coalition Building Institute, facilitated a Nov. 29 workshop titled "Community Building After the Storms." During the event, hosted on behalf of the Commission on Diversity and Economic Development, community members provided the commission with recommendations on rebuilding.

The Lafayette Parish Bar Association held a meeting Dec. 8 at the City Club. The meeting included a panel discussion with The Justice Planning Associates Inc. on the functionality and future of the 15th Judicial District's courthouse. The association's Community Service Committee has also partnered with the Lafayette Council on Aging to provide winter supplies to elderly homebound residents.

Le Centre International and Lafayette Economic Development Authority recently hosted 15 Swedish companies seeking partnerships with similar Louisiana businesses. The companies hope to work together to generate business in the areas of post-hurricane reconstruction work.

The Junior League of Lafayette awarded grants to several community organizations Dec. 13. The grants are funded from events and sales of the league's four cookbooks. The league also announced Adrienne Guidry as the winner of its Tinsel and Treasures Dodge Durango Raffle.

Foster Marketing Communications recently received four "Best of Texas" awards, including the Lantern Award from the Business Marketing Association's Houston chapter.

Allstate Agent Chris Canty received the Agency Hands in the Community Award for his continued commitment to volunteer work in Acadiana. Canty also received a $500 grant from Acadiana Outreach Center with the award.

The Planned Giving Council of Acadiana awarded Greg Trahan, owner of Safety Management Systems, its Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year award. Other honorees included the Woman's Foundation and Phena Guidry.

Moss Motors received the Better Business Bureau's Integrity Award for large businesses at the bureau's annual banquet.

Russo Ad Group is a multiple finalist in this year's Silver Microphone Award competition.

An awards ceremony was held at UL's Fletcher Hall to honor students from the Visual Arts Graphic Design Program who designed promotional materials for the 2007 celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Marquis de La Fayette's birth. The city-parish of Lafayette will use the students' work during the event, which is being planned in conjunction with the La Fayette memorial in Chavaniac, France.

The USA Rice Federation awarded Melissa LaCour of Abbeville the 2005 National Rice Month Scholarship for Louisiana in response to her promotional work and "Red Beans and Rice" food drive for hurricane relief.
