New improv project ‘Two For the Road’ opens this weekend

"Two for the Road" is a new Improvised theatre project that will debut on Friday, Aug. 5 at Theatre 810.

Lafayette has seen its comedy and theatre scene grow greatly over the last few years, with the newest addition to the performance landscape being “Two for the Road,” a new improvised theatre project from the minds of Dr. Nico Zaunbrecher and Sarah Mikayla Brown.

The two local improv vets will take the stage with nothing planned, and create new characters and scenarios on the spot following the growing phenomenon in the improv community nationwide that focuses on improvisation featuring just one or two actors.

“Two for the Road” crafts gripping improv centered on honest and powerful relationships. Brown and Zaunbrecher fully embrace the duo dynamic by shaping stories built not from wacky situations and snappy witticisms, but from around the always transforming space between "I" and "thou."

“Two for the Road” will aim to explore improvised scenes from a position of honesty. Brown and Zaunbrecher will also explore the potential of dramatic improvisation.

“Two for the Road” opens Friday, Aug. 5 and Saturday, Aug. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at Theatre 810, located at 810 Jefferson St., in Downtown Lafayette. A matinee showing will be held on Sunday, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and seniors. For more information or to make reservations, call 337-484-0172.
