The Silverbacks Improv Theatre presents the latest installment of its Lafayette Famous series featuring Alex Labat this Saturday, Aug. 20, starting at 6 p.m. at Cité des Arts.

In response to the recent historic flooding in Acadiana, this performance of Lafayette Famous will benefit the Lafayette General Foundation's most recent addition to its philanthropic efforts, the Employee Flood Fund. This fund has been created to help doctors, physicians, and nurses who were affected by the recent flooding, in order to help them continue to serve the Acadiana area during this time of crisis.

All proceeds from this Saturday’s show will be donated the Employee Flood Fund. Those interested in donating to the Lafayette General Foundation may do so here.

Lafayette Famous features a mix of improvisation and storytelling. In this format, a local celebrity prepares three true stories from their life. The improvisers create scenes based on themes from the stories, bringing performers and audience alike on a humorous journey.

Raised right here in the Hub City, Labat received his high school diploma from Acadiana High School, and his Bachelor’s degree in Communications from UL Lafayette. During his time at UL Lafayette, Labat joined Cult of the Stage Monkey, the group that spawned The Silverbacks. Now, Alex makes his triumphant return to the stage to share three stories that sound too outrageous to be true.

For five years, Labat worked at KATC, working his way up from a studio cameraman all the way up to a news anchor and reporter. During that time, Labat received a number of awards and commendations, but attributes his handling of spur-of-the-moment situations to his training in improvisational theater.

The Silverbacks Improv Theatre presents Lafayette Famous with Alex Labat on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 8 p.m. at Cite Des Arts, located at 109 Vine St., in Downtown Lafayette. Tickets are $5. For reservations and more information call 337-291-1122 or visit www.silverbacksimprov.com.
