Council to consider emergency ordinances

Describing the current situation in the parish as “hazards to life, health, property and public safety,” the ordinances will allow Mayor Joel Robideaux to “enter into contracts exempt from the Louisiana Public Bid Law.”

The City-Parish Council has added a pair of emergency ordinances to the agenda Tuesday to address the pressing need for clearing thousands of tons of storm debris from street sides over the coming weeks and months.

Describing the current situation in the parish as “hazards to life, health, property and public safety,” the ordinances will allow Mayor Joel Robideaux to “enter into contracts exempt from the Louisiana Public Bid Law,” which normally requires governmental agencies to accept bids from multiple companies for public works and other government contracts.

According to the ordinances, LCG will maintain records “of any monies expended in respect of the emergency described herein in order that appropriate reimbursement might be obtained from the United States of America or agencies thereof (including particularly the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Emergency Management Agency or the Department of Homeland Security), the State of Louisiana (including the Department of Public Safety or the Louisiana National Guard) or other parishes, cities, towns, municipalities or other political subdivisions of the State of Louisiana.”
