ACADIANA ROOTS WITH ACADIANA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Thursday, Sept. 15

The Daily Advertiser

Doors: 7 p.m.

Admission: $10

Members of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and Conservatory of Music perform at the next edition of Acadiana Roots, the monthly music and conversation series set for 7 p.m. Sept. 15 in the Daily Advertiser’s Community Room, 1100 Bertrand Drive. The $10 admission ticket gets you light snacks, beverages (including beer and wine) and a classical music experience that is up-close and personal. ASO musicians will display their diverse music skills and offer a preview of the symphony’s 32nd concert season. The new season is titled STEAM, a five-year artistic vision that connects music with science, technology, engineering, arts and math.

NEW NATIVES BRASS BAND BACK TO SCHOOL BASH

The Natives proudly present their Back to School Bash at Artmosphere Bistro. Lafayette's very own Magic Crawfish will start the night. The Natives will close it with some street funk. Come start the school year right.

Downtown Alive! (DTA!) kicks off the Fall 2016 season with Feufollet the Parc Sans Souci stage on Sept. 16. When Cajun, country, string-band and rock'n'roll all collide the result is Feufollet. This fun loving group is sure to keep the audience interested as their sound transforms from song to song. No two songs are alike, but they are all unmistakably the dynamic and original Feufollet. Downtown Alive! is still free to music lovers of all ages, however, we’ve teamed up with some of your other favorite free music festivals, Festival International de Louisiane and Festivals Acadiens et Creoles to remind fans: “The music is free because of me!”, please support these free events and purchase on-site.

Come join The Nouveau String Band at one of its favorite venues this Friday, Sept. 16 at The Filling Station in Downtown Lafayette. They’ll be playing outside (weather permitting) after Downtown Alive! and the music is free.

Formed in 1983, the 5th Avenue band's popularity was unrivaled. They dominated the high school prom circuit and took over the night club scene in the 80's. Playing everything from Prince, Midnight Star and then on to high energy like Stevie B and Dino - 5th Avenue was flawless in delivering the sound that everyone could dance to.

The 2nd installment of Poodoo Soul Fest is bringing you a leg raising, hand jiving, skirt flying good time. This time they are doing it bigger and better than the last, so pay close attention to the details, put ya hot pants on, and be prepared to sing your SOUL out. Pre game party begins at 7 p.m. at Carpe' Diem! Espresso and Gelato Bar located a few blocks away from the final event venue. There will be free food and drinks while supplies last and guests will be warming up to form the 2nd line march to the gig. Each attendee will be handed a free KAZOO to sing along and perform with while dancing in the march. Bring the kazoo to the door to get in for a reduced cover. Keep it for the memories. The line will leave promptly at 8:30 p.m., so don't miss it. Join in for an incredible night and make this comeback the best and most memorable.
