‘I Voted’ sticker says it all

Gaze into the Blue Dog’s eyes and tell us that isn’t how you feel.

Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler on Monday unveiled new stickers that will be handed out to voters at polling locations and early-voting sites: an image of late painter George Rodrique’s iconic Blue Dog set against stars and stripes. Schedler says he partnered with the George Rodrique Foundation of the Arts to use the image titled “Stand Up Straight and Tall,” which Rodrique originally created in 2001 following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The painting is part of the New Orleans Museum of Art’s permanent collection.

“We were looking for a way to make this presidential election unique and exciting for Louisiana voters,” Schedler says in a press release. “We traditionally have robust turnout when we elect the president, but I’m hoping this sticker will put us over the top in terms of turnout. I have a feeling everyone is going to want to show their patriotism and pride by proudly wearing this nationally famous Louisiana artist’s ‘I VOTED’ sticker.”

We’re not sure the gimmick will drive voter participation, but really, if the Blue Dog’s expression doesn’t perfectly capture Election 2016 we don’t know what does.

Considering how Louisiana is likely to overwhelmingly vote on Nov. 8, here are some other sticker ideas Schedler should consider, humbly submitted for your approval:
