For La. kids, it's the same old tune

For the seventh year running, Louisiana ranks 49th in the quality of life for kids. That's according to data released today by the Annie E. Casey Foundation in Kids Count 2008. The data is compiled from the years 2005-2006.

Looking at data for Lafayette Parish, in 2003, 22 percent of children, age 17 and under, were living in poverty. Statewide, 27 percent of kids were living in poverty. For the same year in Lafayette Parish, the median household income was $39,095, compared to to $33,792 statewide.
