Roya Boustany, an assistant district attorney with the 15th JDC district attorney’s office; George D. “Dave” Ernest III, an attorney with Hurlburt, Monroe & Ernest in Lafayette; and Bernard N. Marcantel and David E. Marcantel, attorneys with Marcantel, Marcantel, Wall & Pfeiffer in Jennings, have been named fellows of the Louisiana Bar Foundation.

Roya Boustany, an assistant district attorney with the 15th JDC district attorney’s office; George D. “Dave” Ernest III, an attorney with Hurlburt, Monroe & Ernest in Lafayette; and Bernard N. Marcantel and David E. Marcantel, attorneys with Marcantel, Marcantel, Wall & Pfeiffer in Jennings, have been named fellows of the Louisiana Bar Foundation. Fellowship consists of judges, lawyers and law professors whose professional, public and private careers demonstrate their dedication to the improvement of the administration of justice. The nonprofit LBF is the largest state funder of legal aid, supporting programs that provide free legal services for the poor in all 64 parishes.

Katrena A. Porter and Brenton I. Mims have joined the law firm of Simien & Miniex as associate attorneys; both practices will concentrate on personal injury cases and outside counsel for a variety of clients. Porter is a graduate of UNO, where she earned a BA degree in anthropology. In May 2015 she received her juris doctorate from Southern University Law Center. Mims graduated from Southern University A&M College, earning a BA degree in history. In May 2015 he also received his juris doctorate from Southern University Law Center.

Dr. Dee Garrett, a pediatric surgeon with the Kids Specialty Center on the Women’s & Children’s Hospital campus, has opened a Lake Charles clinic. Garrett joins fellow Kids Specialty Center Drs. Ammar Morad, Vukmir Vlasic and Ann Marie Flannery, who currently offer clinics in Lake Charles. Garrett sees patients at the clinic on the second Wednesday of each month. Garrett joined the Kids Specialty Center in January 2013 after completing a fellowship in pediatric surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland. After earning a medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pennsylvania, she did her general surgical residency at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans. During her residency, Garrett obtained a doctorate in genetics from LSU Health Sciences Center. She completed a surgical critical care fellowship at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, a minimally invasive surgery fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and a pediatric surgery fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Mike Culpepper has been named digital developer at ad agency Prejean Creative. Culpepper develops and maintains client websites and mobile applications. The Shreveport native began his career at the agency as an intern while working toward a bachelor of science degree from UL Lafayette, with a concentration in business computing and informatics, and a minor in business. He graduated in May and has transitioned into this full-time staff position.

Lisa Lavergne has joined the Thomson Smith & Leach Insurance Group’s Lafayette office as an account manager, selling and servicing a full array of personal lines products. She has 35 years of insurance experience, having worked with State Farm for 21 years and with Allstate for 12 years. The Milton native is working toward her Certified Insurance Service Representative designation.

For the third year in a row, Courtesy Ford of Breaux Bridge was recognized by the Ford Motor Company with the President’s Award. This award, based soley on customer feedback, is earned by approximately 32 percent of Ford dealerships.
