AOC celebrates National Free Speech Week

AOC Community Media will celebrate National Free Speech Week from Monday, Oct. 17 through Friday, Oct. 21 with several free events geared toward raising awareness about free speech and celebrating its monumental importance in our nation’s democracy. And because freedom of speech is a right that all Americans share, all of the events are non-partisan and neutral in an attempt to unify Lafayette in celebration of free thought.

All of the following free events will be held at AOC in the Rosa Parks Transportation Center, with the exception of Downtown Alive!:

Monday, Oct. 17

5:30-6:30 p.m.

AOC Member Meeting

AOC invites members and non-members to this meeting where AOC will showcase its newest production equipment available to AOC members. AOC will also be giving away spots in its Advanced Field Production Workshop (valued at $15-30). Pizza will be provided.

Tuesday, Oct. 18

6-8 p.m.

Simple Studio Production

Learn the basic elements of studio production in AOC's most basic studio including managing audio, live switching, creating graphics and more. This workshop is available free to AOC members or $15 for non-members. Participants must register at least two days before the workshop as space is limited.

Wednesday, Oct. 19

8 p.m.

Presidential Debate Watch Party

AOC invites everyone to watch in the final Presidential Debate in a non-partisan, neutral setting at AOC.

Thursday, Oct. 20

7 p.m.

Free Screening of “Wayne’s World”

In celebration of Community Media Day, AOC invites all movie lovers to watch this cult classic together to experience one of the funnier possibilities of community-produced media. Pizza and popcorn will be provided.

Friday, Oct. 21

6 p.m.

Downtown Alive! at Parc International

AOC students will be handing out free pocket versions of The U.S. Constitution at Downtown Alive!
