Crying Eagle Brewing Company of Lake Charles has begun offering three of its beers in Lafayette bars and restaurants and will begin selling those same brews in select Lafayette stores beginning next week. The fast-growing brewery takes its name from the Atakapa translation of Calcasieu and honors an Atakapa chief.

“Our ambition and ingenuity is reflected in our brews,” says Eric Avery, president of Crying Eagle Brewing Company, a press release announcing the expansion. “Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish have been tremendously supportive of our microbrewery, and we’re ready to mingle with Lafayette.”

More from the release:

The story of Crying Eagle Brewery began where many stories begin—at the family dinner table. The Avery family owns and manages several Lake Charles businesses, and Crying Eagle was built after years of half-jokes about opening a microbrewery.

The Averys constructed a custom-built, state-of-the-art facility, which features a 7,500-square-foot, 30-barrel brewhouse, a 4,000-square-foot taproom and an outdoor beer garden. Since its opening, colorful taproom events and a flavorful roster of craft beers have been a hit with the locals.

“We’re ready to share a glass of Crying Eagle with our friends and neighbors in Lafayette,” said Avery. “We hope craft-beer lovers in Acadiana will adopt Crying Eagle as one of their favorites.”

The three brews available in Lafayette are:

Ready To Mingle: A Belgian single with a crisp bitterness and robust undertones that exemplify the distinct Belgian character.

The Chuck: Named for Lake Charles’ affectionate nickname, The Chuck is a golden, drinkable ale that is as flavorful as it is refreshing.

Calcasieu Common: An amber-colored lager created by an unusual hybrid lager-ale brewing process that was used during the Gold Rush.
