Leadership Lafayette is currently accepting applications for its class of 2006, beginning in January and ending in November. The program has been reformatted and will now include an in-depth examination of all aspects of our local community and state. Twenty-five candidates will be chosen to participate, and applications are available from the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and online at www.lafchamber.org.

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita resulted in the greatest cargo totals on record at Lafayette Regional Airport in September. The airport's incoming cargo reached more than 1.5 million pounds, including food, supplies and relief items for hurricane-affected areas. Outgoing cargo totaled almost 411,000 pounds.

Louisiana Community and Technical College System President Walter G. Bumphus was named CEO of the Year by the Association of Community College Trustees. Bumphus was awarded for his leadership skills, caring attitude and support for two-year post-secondary education agendas.
UL Lafayette's College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions was named a Center of Excellence by the National League for Nursing for creating environments that promote ongoing faculty development.

Law firm Laborde & Neuner donated $25,000 to individuals affected by Hurricane Katrina. The donation was divided between United Way of Acadiana's Katrina Evacuee Fund and the Hurricane Katrina Legal Community Relief Fund.
Nextel Partners is holding its fifth-annual Nextel Cans for a Cause holiday food drive through Dec. 7. Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at local Nextel locations and will be donated to FoodNet and Food for Families.
