Landrieu, Vitter in the money

by Leslie Turk

Apparently unlike their lawmaking counterparts on the state level, U.S. Sens. Mary Landrieu and David Vitter would do just fine without their yearly $165,200 congressional salaries. The Center for Responsive Politics' Web site shows Landrieu disclosing investments ranging from $2.4 million to $4.2 million, with Vitter's valued at $856,000 to $3 million.

Congress is required to disclose the figures annually, with values reported in ranges rather than specific figures.

Landrieu also stated liabilities that include a mortgage on a Washington residence of between $250,000 and $500,000, along with other property mortgages. Vitter listed no liabilities.

Also of note was U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany's main source of income: $264,000 in payments from the former cardiovascular surgeon's disability policy. Boustany suffers from arthritis that forced him into early retirement years ago.
