Police: UL student recants attack story

The story went viral on social media and was picked up by national media.

A Lafayette Police spokesman on Thursday afternoon issued a press release saying a female UL Lafayette student, presumably Muslim although never explicitly identified as such, has recanted a claim that she was attacked and robbed of her wallet and hijab by two white men, one of whom was wearing a Donald Trump cap:

During the course of the investigation, the female complainant admitted that she fabricated the story about her physical attack as well as the removal of her hijab and wallet by two white males. This incident is no longer under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department.

The story went viral on social media and was picked up by national news agencies. The IND reached out to Lafayette Police about whether the student will face a charge for the false claim but have yet to hear back.
