The Republican third-place finisher in Louisiana's U.S. Senate race has endorsed his one-time GOP rival for the Dec. 10 runoff.
U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany announced Tuesday he's backing Treasurer John Kennedy, in his one-on-one competition against Democratic Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell.
In a short statement, Boustany urged his supporters to vote for Kennedy. The two men had traded attacks ahead of this month's primary, with a super PAC supporting Kennedy heavily hitting Boustany.
The congressman said of his support for Kennedy: "Republicans who care about the future of our country need a Republican in the Senate who will work with Donald Trump to roll back the failed liberal policies of President Obama."
Earlier Tuesday, the fourth-place finisher in the race, Democratic lawyer Caroline Fayard announced her backing of Campbell.
