Ron and Jean Prejean of Lafayette are the new owners of Itz Pop-A-Licious, which offers a variety of gourmet popcorn in a family-friendly atmosphere. The husband and wife team officially took over this local gourmet popcorn shop Nov. 11.

“We just wanted to do something fun for the community and fun for our family,” says Ron Prejean. “We have a couple of arcades for the kids, and we have a play area for the smaller kids, so they have something to do. It’s very laid back over here.”

Itz Pop-A-Licious offers gourmet popcorn flavors that include classics like movie theatre popcorn as well as candy flavors like black cherry, piña colada, green apple, grape and more. It also offers savory flavors like bacon, dill pickle, cheese pizza, boiled crawfish and Ragin’ Cajun. Plus, there are several specialty flavors like cookies and cream and a chocolate flavor sprinkled with nuts and a white chocolate drizzle on top.

Portions range in size from junior to small to medium and large along with larger gallon sizes that come in pails and tins.

The new owners have several new concepts they plan to implement at Itz once they have their feet wet with their new business. Other future additions include installing an ICEE machine and adding more carnival foods like nachos and fudge puppies.

Prejean says they are also in talks with Sophie P’s Cupcakes to offer some of its sweets in the store.

“Basically, we would like it to be a one-stop-shop where we can do gift baskets,” says Prejean. “We can do a different variety of things and other options for holidays, parties for businesses and stuff like that.”

Prejean says that they are currently working to get their website built for Itz where they will be able to accept online orders and eventually deliver them.

Itz Pop-A-Licious is located at 117 Westmark Blvd. next to Fat Pat’s, and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. For more details, visit Itz Pop-A-Licious on Facebook.
