Reports the Detroit Free Press:

He doesn’t hit much, or have an extensive Major League track record, but perhaps Mikie Mahtook is the kind of low-cost option the team was seeking to help patch its hole in centerfield.

The team acquired Mahtook in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later or cash, according to the Tigers. To make room for Mahtook on the 40-man roster, the team designated centerfielder Anthony Gose for assignment.

Mahtook, 27, hit .195 in 65 games with the Rays last season. In 2015, he batted .295 with nine home runs in 41 games.

Mahtook was drafted out of LSU in the first round of the 2011 MLB draft.
