Photo by Robin MayFormer U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany has joined a Washington lobbying firm after losing his bid for a promotion to the U.S. Senate.
The Advocate reports that Capitol Counsel says Boustany, a Lafayette Republican and retired surgeon, will focus on health care, tax and trade issues.
Boustany was a member of the House for 12 years. He gave up his House seat to run for the Senate, a race he lost last year. The former congressman can't lobby his former colleagues for two years, but the ban doesn't extend to executive branch agencies.
Boustany joins other Louisiana lawmakers who recently left Congress, including former U.S. Sens. David Vitter and Mary Landrieu, in making the move to lobbying. Jim McCrery, a one-time Louisiana congressman, is a partner at Capital Counsel.
