Ideal Steel wins state's top manufacturing award

Broussard-based Ideal Steel is one of seven companies across the state to receive the 2008 Louisiana Lantern Award, presented annually by the Louisiana Department of Economic Development for manufacturing excellence and community involvement. The company's growth in employment and facility expansion were also cited by the state in announcing the award.

Ideal Steel, a building and components company founded in 1992, won the award for the Acadiana region. The company employs 100 workers and sells its products in 32 states. Ideal Steel designs and manufactures custom buildings and steel components for the commercial, industrial, retail and agricultural markets.

Ideal Steel is located at 1289 Smede Highway in Broussard. The company is hosting a press conference and recognition event for its employees tomorrow, June 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Expected to attend tomorrow's celebration are state Sen. Mike Michot, St. Martin Parish President Guy Cormier and Fran Gladden, undersecretary of the Louisiana Department of Economic Development.
