On Wednesday, Bishop Douglas Deshotel of the Diocese of Lafayette, Lafayette Parish elected officials and representatives of more than a dozen community and business organizations including Mayor President Joel Robideaux, One Acadiana CEO Jason El Koubi, Sheriff Mark Garber, Lafayette Parish Tax Assesor Conrad Comeaux and more joined together in support of the April 29 sales tax election. The .5 cent sales tax, limited to 10 years, is dedicated to creating 248 permanent classrooms at public schools across Lafayette Parish. The event was held on the Lafayette High School campus in an area where 31 outside metal buildings serve as temporary classrooms.
