Lamar White Jr. has the Midas touch. The Louisiana blogger and bane of conservative politicians best known for his widely read CenLamar blog, has pulled off a coup in the emerging realm of nonprofit online journalism by securing a content agreement with The Daily Kingfish ahead of the launch of The Bayou Brief.

The former is an award-winning, frequently visited progressive blog devoted to Louisiana politics that has been publishing for more than a decade and has attracted the attention of 650,000 readers as well as The Washington Post, The Rachel Maddow Show, Mother Jones, Roll Call and other media outlets.

White announced this week that The Bayou Brief has acquired The Daily Kingfish’s content, including thousands of archived articles, and will roll the Kingfish’s thousands of followers and email subscribers into The Bayou Brief’s email and social media fold, creating what will be the state’s largest, most robust progressive news and opinion web operation.

“When we decided to launch The Bayou Brief, we recognized the importance of putting all hands on deck,” publisher Lamar White, Jr. says in a release announcing the acquisition. “We promise to be faithful stewards of the important work that The Daily Kingfish published. It’s a part of Louisiana’s history, and its audience are a part of our future.”
