Public Works Associate Director Terry Cordick will serve as interim director until a permanent replacement is named. Cordick steps into the role June 1, as current Director Tom Carroll vacated the post at the end of May.
Cordick has 27 years of experience in the department, nearly 10 of those as associate director. During the transition to the Joel Robideaux administration, Cordick served as interim director between November 2015 and January 2016.
Carroll was originally appointed director in 2004 before retiring in 2014. In late 2015, Robideaux asked Carroll to return to the department to assist in the start-up of his administration until the new mayor could conduct a search for a replacement. Earlier this spring, Carroll announced he would end his provisional appointment May 31.
“I’m grateful to Tom for his service to the citizens of Lafayette Parish and for his leadership in the aftermath of the August flood. His experience and dedication were invaluable to my administration during our first year and a half,” Robideaux said in a prepared statement.
Robideaux spokeswoman Cydra Wingerter told The IND in early May that each of the candidates had been interviewed, at the time suggesting there may be another round of interviews.
“Since the position is an appointment, there’s not a formal procedure that has to be followed. I’ll get with Joel and see if I can get you some more specifics about next steps and [a] timeline for making a decision,” she wrote in a May 8 email.
It's unclear whether the list of candidates has been narrowed. Late Wednesday afternoon The IND sent a follow-up email to Wingerter seeking additional information on the selection process. We will update this story when we hear back from her.
