Two spills in south Louisiana

by R. Reese Fuller

This morning, KATC reports that I-10 across the Atchafalaya Basin is closed after a 18-wheeler carrying hazardous materials crashed and caught on fire.

And in New Orleans yesterday, where a tanker and a barge collided in the Mississippi River, there's 400,000 gallons of fuel oil in the river. The Times-Picayune reports that the area covers 100 miles, from the city down to the mouth of the Mississippi. Currently 90 deep-draft vessels are stalled in the river as a result of the spill. WWL-TV has this aerial footage of the spill yesterday afternoon.
