I really enjoyed the article on Catherine and Rob Robison's home in your Dec. 20 issue ("A Contemporary Christmas"). As an artist and also a gallery owner, I was especially pleased with the emphasis on the Robisons' collection of regional art and the pleasures of collecting art. There are so many excellent artists from Acadiana and the Robisons' and others' support of them is good for our area's culture, quality of life and economy, not to mention incentive for the artists to keep on keeping on.

Many people feel they have to go to Dallas or some other big city to buy art, or are simply satisfied with knockoffs or reproductions to decorate their rooms. But by investing in this region's artists, the joy and pleasure of art (whether emotional, intellectual or financial) trickles down immeasurably. Thanks to Mary Tutwiler for her ' as always ' interesting articles, as well as Terri Fensel for her ' as always ' artistic photographs, and to The Independent Weekly for always seeming to cover things that matter, even if at first glance ' to some ' they may seem trivial.

Should Democrats dump Dixie? DEC 17 Blogger Bob Mann gives his two cents on the question being discussed among tight-pants-bushy-beard-hat-on-in-the-house northern liberals who were disgusted by Mary's defeat. In a round-about way, he's seeking to remind them that the pendulum always swings back.
