Lafayette's Monrose up for Ethics Board

by Leslie Turk

Lafayette attorney Blake Monrose, 51, is one of three nominees a House committee has recommended to fill an opening on the Louisiana Board of Ethics. The other nominees are the Rev. Henry Mancusco Jr., a 59-year-old Catholic priest in Lake Charles, and Yancey Nolan, a 36-year-old  human resource official in West Monroe.

State officials have been scrambling to fill the board since personal financial disclosure laws for board members forced mass resignations in June and brought the board's work to a screeching halt. Nominees sent to Gov. Bobby Jindal and both chambers are compiled by the presidents of the state’s private colleges.

The full House is scheduled to pick one of the three on Oct. 6, and the ethics panel is set to meet Oct. 9.

The board has 11 members. Seven are named by the governor and two each by the House and Senate. The Senate meets today to fill its lone vacancy.
