Lafayette's first public skate park

by R. Reese Fuller

This weekend, Lafayette Consolidated Government began construction on Lafayette's first public skate park. Greg Gautreaux, manager of athletic programs/park maintenance, says the first phase of the park, being constructed behind the Goodwill and the fire station on Johnston Street at St. Julien Avenue, will run about $80,000. The second phase, at a cost of $25,000, will incorporate new freestyle ramps. The giant concrete bowl (think of an empty swimming pool) is under construction now and could be completed and open to the public by the end of the month.
