Bustle, Fisher make Lombardi watch list

by Leslie Turk

UL offensive linemen Brad Bustle and Chris Fisher have landed a spot on the preliminary 2009 Rotary Lombardi Award watch list. Among the 48 players named to the 2009 preliminary list are three semi-finalists for last year's award, which went to Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo.

The three semi-finalists returning to this year’s list are South Florida defensive lineman George Selvie, Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes and Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon. Selvie was also a semi-finalist in 2007; both Selvie and Spikes are All-Americans. This year’s list includes a total of four All-Americans.

Seniors Bustle and Fisher, both walk-ons who later earned scholarships, helped the Cajuns become one of the most dominating running teams in the country. Since 2006, with Bustle at guard and Fisher at center, the Cajuns have rushed for 8,447 yards and 75 scores, including 3,164 yards last season - good enough for 7th in the nation.
