Ernie Alexander returns to KVOL

by Leslie Turk

Ernie Alexander has been named general manager of Lafayette news/talk radio station KVOL-AM 1330, where he got his start in radio in 1951 at the age of 18. The GM job is effective immediately, and the former state rep will also host a new morning show called A.M. Acadiana with Ernie Alexander. The show debuts June 1, airing weekdays from 6-8 a.m. It kicks off a conservative lineup, displacing the syndicated Laura Ingraham Show to the 11 a.m. time slot following the Glenn Beck Program at 10 a.m.

Alexander’s radio career eventually led to ownership of KMDL and KFTE. After selling the radio stations, he entered politics as a city-parish councilman. He served one term and then was elected into the Louisiana House of Representatives where he served two four-year terms.

KVOL’s parent company, Lafayette-based Pittman Broadcasting Services, is owned by Dr. Marcus L. Pittman III, who also independently owns and operates Z105.9 KFXZ-FM, 106.3 The Juice KYMK-FM, Cat Country 98.9 WUUU-FM, Christian Talk 1520 KFXZ-AM, and 1110 WOMN-AM. Charles Sagona is general manager of the Pittman-owned radio group.
