The state Senate is expected to vote on legislation as early as Sunday afternoon that would officially recognize the town of Henderson as the “Gateway to the Atchafalaya Basin.” House Concurrent Resolution 117 also designates a nearby portion of La. Highway 352 as the “Atchafalaya Basin Parkway.”
Sponsored by Rep. Fred Mills, D-Parks, and Sen. Troy Hebert, D-Jeanerette, the resolution allows the Department of Transportation and Development to install signs letting folks know they’re in the proposed gateway or on the proposed parkway. More than anything else, it would be a marketing boost, according to the Acadiana lawmakers.
